Book Club

Strange, isn’t it? To love a book. When the words on the pages become so precious that they feel like part of your own history because they are. It’s nice to finally have someone read stories I know so intimately.

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

Written in the Margins Traveling Book Club

I’ve always wanted a fun way to interact with other readers—especially those who read my blog—and to share diverse works of fiction. The problem? I’m not a massive fan of traditional book clubs, readathons, and readalongs, as my disabilities make participating difficult. But I’m never one to let life stop me for too long, so when I discovered “traveling book clubs,” I thought it was a perfect idea that I really wanted to put into practice! What exactly is a “traveling book club”? Well, think The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but instead of sharing “magic pants,” we share a book that we each annotate and pass on to the next member, until the circle of members completes itself!

How It Works

Step #1 is to sign up using the form below. Sign ups are open from December 21, 2020 until January 15, 2021 and I will pick the first five applicants. BOOK CLUB SPACES ARE FIRST COME FIRST SERVE! I will contact the selected applicants and pair buddies so that you know who you’re sending a book to.

  • Applicants must be 18+ or have their parent’s/guardian’s permission to participate.
  • This is US ONLY. I am so sorry to international friends who want to participate, but, sadly, international shipping is so expensive that I can’t justify the cost to participants.
  • Addresses WILL NOT be shared to anyone but your assigned partners.

You will have a period of two weeks to keep/read and annotate the book. Fill that book up with as much love and as many annotations, notes, doodles, and tabs as you want! Feel free to even respond to other member’s annotations too! This is the fun part 😉

After two weeks are up, it’s time to send the book on to the next person in the chain! AS OF NOW, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PACKAGING AND SHIPPING FEES! You definitely do not have to, but if you’d like to, you’re welcome to add a letter or a little note or a small thing like a bookmark to send to the next person in the club with the book.

This Quarter’s Selections

Our first ever selection focuses on own voices PoC authored books! The selection ranges from contemporary to thriller to fantasy and includes both YA fiction and Adult fiction picks! I’ve linked the book covers to the Goodreads page for each book, so if you don’t recognize any of these picks, definitely look into them, as they’re all wonderful, from what I hear! I’ve also listed trigger warnings for some of the selection, but if you noticed I’ve missed a trigger warning, please let me know immediately. I encourage all of you to research these books for any additional trigger warnings that I may have missed, just in case.

Lastly, I’d like to thank the ~Mysterious Donor~ who purchased Long Way Down and Allegedly from my Amazon wish list for this book club! I don’t yet know who you are, but I appreciate you and your help getting this club off the ground from the bottom of my heart!
