The Book Theme Meme | Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Hello and welcome to The Book Theme Meme, my weekly meme which pairs a book and a song! Everyone is welcome here so here’s how to participate:

This week I chose the book Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo and have paired it with the song “Spectrum” by Florence + The Machine. This song reminds me in particular of the scene when our protagonist, Alina Starkov, is first introduced to the royal court. The song just sounds like the bending and refracting of light and I imagine that particular scene as Alina walking into the court in a burst of light (if I’m remembering correctly). That scene is particularly well described by the song lyrics,

Say my name

And every color illuminates

We are shining

And we will never be afraid again
