explore my autumn 2022 bucket list

Hello again, friends, and happy autumn to you! Here in the northern hemisphere fall is officially here and it seems like all of us are ready to celebrate its arrival after an obscenely hot summer (although, here in the Washington, D.C. area, it has yet to cool down *sobs*). And, of course, that means it’s time to break out the autumnal activities! I’ve seen other bloggers sharing what they’d like to do, read, watch, and listen to this autumn and I wanted to join in the fun! In particular, I was inspired by Sarah’s ultimate fall bucket list to create my own autumnal bucket list!

do some autumnal activities
One of my favorite activities is actually going for walks through cemeteries, especially during autumn! I know it’s weird, but I just find cemeteries so incredibly peaceful. I love how quiet and calm they are, plus it can be really cool to see the unique gravestones that have stood the test of time. While I find it nice to to take walks through cemeteries any time of year, autumn is definitely one of the best seasons for it, considering it is the season of spooky vibes, after all!
Autumn also isn’t complete without carving pumpkins! And this year, my mom and I actually grew our own pumpkins, so we’ll be carving those up, as well as using them to make a lot of pumpkin-filled treats!
Speaking of pumpkin-filled treats, I’d love to also bake/cook some autumnal goodies! I’m talking pumpkin bread, savory rosemary sweet potatoes, cornbread, the works!
And, of course, let’s not forget decorating for the season! This season I’m planning on grabbing some autumnal bookish candles/wax melts, as well as hopefully getting some autumn fairy lights up. My family’s home decor is already pretty much autumn tones, but hopefully we can add a bit of spoopy-ness to it!
watch some autumnal movies & series
First off, I’m definitely planning on picking up where I left off in season one of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and continuing to watch the show. I know a lot of people seem to dislike it, but I, personally, really enjoy the show, I think it’s the perfect mix of fun, campy, and spooky! I’ve loved watching various iterations of Sabrina Spellman’s story since I was a kid, so watching this latest one is always a treat.
Obviously, seeing as Knives Out is one of my all-time favorite movies, I’ll absolutely be watching the sequel, Glass Onion! I’m excited, but also super apprehensive! I can’t imagine this film topping the first one, but then again, I’ve heard glowing reviews from early screenings. Overall, I just can’t wait for the return of Benoit Blanc to the screen!
I’ve also saved watching Only Murders in the Building Season Two for the fall since I feel like the mystery genre is perfect for fall! I actually have one or two episodes of season one left to watch, but even still, I am so, so excited to see where season two takes our lovable sleuths!
Last, but certainly not least, I absolutely WILL be watching the new Netflix show, Wednesday, which is all about everyone’s favorite spooky girly, Wednesday Addams. When it was announced that Netflix would be making a new show about Wednesday Addams that would be directed by the iconically eerie Tim Burton, I just knew I was gonna have to watch it! And now that it’s almost here, I’m even more hyped! I can’t wait to see what Netflix has in store for Wednesday!

read some autumnal books
I think it was a video from Katie of the booktube channel katie is reading that first gave me the idea to assign fitting themes to the autumn months of September, October, and November. And that’s how I ended up deciding that September is for dark academia, October is for magically spoopy reads, and November is for gothic reads! Of course, these are just the themes I’ve decided on, you can obviously make your own, but I wanted to share my loose TBR for these Months!
- Babel, Or The Necessity of Violence by R.F. Kuang – I don’t think there’s anyone in the online book community who won’t be reading this book this fall!
- Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo – I’ve LOVED all of Bardugo’s other series, so I’m excited to see how she does magical dark academia!
- A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee – I’ve heard this book is a mixture of dark academia, witches, and mystery/thriller, but not in the ways you expect, so I feel like it’s a great transitional book for moving from September to October.
- Over My Dead Body by Sweeney Boo – I’ve loved Sweeney Boo’s art for a good while now so when I heard she was writing and illustrating a mystery set at a school for witches, I was so excited!! Honestly, this sounds like the perfect read for this autumn and I can’t wait for it!
- The Witchery by S. Isabelle – This book is supposedly a YA contemporary fantasy all about witches in boarding school, and that is enough to catch my interest!
- The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw – I’ve wanted to get to this one since it released years ago. I know from Shea Ernshaw’s other YA novel, Winterwood, that she perfectly captures seasonal folksy feels for winter, so I would bet she can do the same for a witchy book too!
- Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone – This is a gothic YA fantasy with hints of Beauty and the Beast and it sounds amazing!! I feel like it has perfect November gothic vibes and I can’t wait to get to it!
- Belladonna by Adalyn Grace – Another gothic YA fantasy, Belladonna involves a girl who can interact with Death!
make an autumn themed playlist
Another fun seasonal activity is making an autumn themed playlist! For me, I tend to have two moods in terms of my autumn music: soft and folksy or gritty alternative pop rock. I know, that’s very specific hahaha! Oh—and of course I add some seasonal classics like “I Put A Spell on You” by Nina Simone and “Season of the Witch” by Lana Del Ray. This fall, I’ve already added songs from Evermore by Taylor Swift and music by Agnes Obel, Ruelle, K. Flay, Bishop Briggs, and Gin Wigmore. Here’s what I have so far:

That’s all for today, friends, I hope you enjoyed our time together and maybe found something fun to check out! And definitely be sure to tell me all about your planned autumn fun in the comments below! Until next time, dear friends…
spill the beans, friends!

I like to go camping in the fall. It’s cooler and less people, and prettier with the fall colors
