In Review | March 2016

Wow! This month passed in a whirl! I finished sooooooo many books this month, it boggles my mind (fourteen, OMG). Yes, half of them were novellas and one was a graphic novel, but still! So let’s get on with it!

Books Read + Mini Reviews

“Bridge of Snow” (The Winner’s Trilogy 0.5) by Marie Rutkoski | 5/5 Stars

This was a beautiful little story that I couldn’t help looking at closer to see if it held any clues to the series. I still don’t know if it does, but it was good anyhow.

The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig | 3.5/5 Stars

I enjoyed the writing in this book, though there were a few elements that didn’t quite satisfying. The settings were rich and the characters colorful. A good story.

Into the Dim by Janet B. Taylor | 3.5/5 Stars

This was dubbed “Outlander for teens” and though I’ve never read Outlander, I know the premise, and it does seem an accurate comparison. While it wasn’t a perfect book, it was really fun and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare | 4/5 Stars

How could I not love this book? A promising new installment in The Shadowhunter Chronicles and I just ate it up! Can’t wait for the next one!

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton | 5/5 Stars

The mix and match settings, colorful characters, and gunpowder and grit main character made me absolutely fall in love with this book! A must read this year!

*Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Beck Albertalli | 5/5 Stars

Everyone kept telling me how awesome this book was and I was all, “Yeah, sure, alright.” I get it, guys. I get it. This was so cute.

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard | 3/5 Stars

Loved the plot, hated the characters, that’s all I have to say. Iffy on whether or not I’ll continue the series.

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson | 5/5 Stars

My first ever graphic novel and I loved it! It was funny and cute and an all around good time! So lovable!

*Bitter of Tongue by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan | 5/5 Stars

This was  really good novella and I loved seeing a bit of a preview of characters from Lady Midnight!

*The Fiery Trial by Cassandra Clare and Maureen Johnson | 5/5 Stars

I loved seeing our first glimpse of Emma and Julian! So cute!

*The Queen by Kiera Cass | 2.5/5 Stars

If you dislike America, wait until you meet Maxon’s mother. Ugh.

*The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman | 3/5 Stars

This was a very endearing little story, although it left me a little confused.

*Born to Endless Night by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan | 5/5 Stars

All I can say is that this was soooooo adorable! Read it!

*Angels Twice Descending by Cassandra Clare and Robin Wasserman | 4/5 Stars

It was bittersweet to wrap up Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and a little devastating, given what happened.

Challenge Updates

Rock My TBR Challenge

Sadly, I only finished one backlist physical book this month (and no backlist ARCs, e-books, or audiobooks) and that was Nimona by Noelle Stevenson. Still, I’m charging onward. We can do this, guys!

Debut Author Challenge

Three books down for this challenge this month. I read The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig, Into the Dim by Janet B. Taylor, and Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton! Aw, yeah, high five!

Goodreads Challenge 24/86

I made a significant dent in my Goodreads challenge this month after reading 14 “books.” So woohoo o that front!

This was a pretty chill month with blogging. I participated in two blog–a-thhons, Get Up Offa That Slump Blogging Extravaganza and Bloggiesta. While I totally fell off the wagon with Get Up Offa That Slump Blogging Extravaganza, I won at Bloggiesta, finishing off almost all of my goals.

My favorite post of this month was my post on Why Book Blogging Sucks (And You Totally Shouldn’t Do It)! That was a super fun post to write!

Looking Ahead-Book Bucket

This moth is ARC April, so it’s all about finishing off those backlist ARCs.

Looking Ahead-Blogging

This month begins my crazy season of blog tours (*rubs hands together* I’ve got so much planned for y’all). First up is my stop of the blog tour for Essential Maps for the Lost by Deb Caletti! So you’ll have to see then what’s coming at ya! I have a few new segments planned, but not too much, so that should be fun! But that’s all! Just steady sailing from here, as far as I can see!

  1. I really want to read The Girl from Everywhere. I still need to get around to reading Glass Sword! I was going to put it on my April TBR, but for some reason I didn’t. Hopefully if I have time then I will. Simon vs. was such a good book. I’m glad you liked it so much. 🙂
