Top 10 Tuesday | Read This 2016

Well, folks, we’ve arrived at yet another Tuesday and that means…IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER TOP 10 TUESDAY! Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is “best releases of 2016 we’ve read so far.” I’ve read a handful of 2016 releases and they were all stellar! So let’s jump into it!

1. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Holy. Heck. This. Book. Oh my god. I’m currently reading this book (so no spoilers peeps!) and I just can’t even express how much I’m invested in it. In case you didn’t know, A Court of Mist and Fury is the sequel to A Court of Thorns and Roses, which was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. A Court of Mist and Fury is a smokin’ hot loose retelling of Hades and Persephone. I should warn you: this series is highly addictive. It should also be noted that this is a new adult series and contains explicit sex scenes. But if you’re mature enough to read it, I seriously suggest you do so.

2. The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

This is the second and final book in the The Wrath and the Dawn duology and Ahdieh killed it in every way. First off, the writing is gorgeous! Second off, Ahdieh (like Shazi) is a master storyteller. This book was positively magical and it was bittersweet to know that it was the end.

3. The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

Ah, another final book in a beloved series and it was so good! Stiefvater tied everything together so very well and it all came together in one helluva conclusion! Obviously because this is a concluding book I can’t say much about it but The Raven Cycle tells the story of Blue, Gansey, Ronan, Adam, and Noah, five friends who are searching for a mythical Welsh King. The series is incredible as a whole, but the aspect that really stands out is the characters and their relationships, which are vivid, colorful, and intricate. Definitely a must read for YA of this decade!

4. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

The newest book in The Shadowhunter Chronicles and the first book in a new trilogy and I loved it! The newest Clare book tells the story of Emma and Julien, who are investigating a series of mysterious murders. Of course, it becomes a little more complicated as the book goes on. True to form, Clare infuses the story with plenty of angst and drama and makes sure you experience all of the feels!

5. Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

This was a 2016 debut and I found it incredibly promising! Set in a world which is a mixture of the Middle East and the wild west, Rebel of the Sands tells the story of Amani, a female sharp shooter who just wants to get out of her town and the likely future of an arranged marriage. Amani’s life changes when she meets a tall, dark, and handsome mysterious stranger and adventure ensues!

6. The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig

Another 2016 debut that I thought was amazing! Heilig writes very beautifully and tells a unique story. The Girl from Everywhere is the story of Nix, daughter of the captain of a time travelling ship. Nix’s father’s only desire is to travel back in time to save Nix’s mother from her death. But there’s one problem in accomplishing his goal–it may mean that Nix disappears forever.

7. Starflight by Melissa Landers

Landers’ newest book is just a bundle of fun! I had such a great time reading Starflight! This sci fi book tells of Solara, a convict who wants to get to the outer realms of the universe. In order to do this, Solara must become the servant of her old classmate, Doran. The problem? Solara and Doran hate each other with a passion. But when an accident occurs, Doran and Solara find themselves with much bigger problems than their dislike of each other. Filled with space pirates, romance, and fun, Starflight is a great adventure!

8. Into The Dim by Janet B. Taylor

Yet another great 2016 debut! I thought this story was unique and sweet. In Into The Dim, everyone believes Hope’s mother is dead–except for Hope. Hope learns her suspicions are correct when she travels to Scotland to meet her aunt, who reveals to Hope that Hope is part of a family of time travelers and that her mother is trapped back in time. Hope must travel back in time to save her mother–but can she do it? And even more importantly, will she get there in time?

9. Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

Another explosive book filled with twists and turns and shocking revelations from Aveyard. Aveyard excels at writing fast paced, action packed novels, it would seem. Glass Sword is the sequel to Red Queen, which tells of a world divided between silver blooded people, who have superpowers, and red blooded people, who do not have superpowers. But one day, it is discovered that Mare Barrow, a red blooded girl, has superpowers like a silver blood. What follows is a story of rebellion, destruction, and betrayal.

10. Stars Above by Marissa Meyer

This book of short stories was so cute! Of course, I think we all read it for that epilogue, which was so great! The Lunar Chronicles, for those of you tht don’t know, is a series of sci fi retellings of classic fairytales! It features a kickass team of lady friends, romance, mayhem, and fun!
