pride positivity! | the pride flag book tag

Hello again, dear friends, and happy Pride Month! I hope all is well for you, and if not, I hope brighter days head your way soon. I’m so excited for today’s post because I was tagged by Caro over at Bookcheshirecat to take part in The Pride Flag Book Tag! What a fun way to celebrate and to remember that no matter what your identity is, you have a place in this life 🌈💗🌈💗
RESOURCES TO HELP CHANGE THE WORLD
Before anything: FREE PALESTINE!!! 🍉 For over half a century now, the Israeli government has been enacting a genocide against the Palestinian people. This is more than something that started on October 7, 2023. It’s not complicated. It’s genocide. And it’s important that we witness, raise our voices, protest, and fight against it in any way possible. Below are a list of resources to help educate yourself on Palestine, as well as to donate to aid the Palestinian people. In addition, I’ve added some Palestinian influencers and journalists you can follow to learn more from and who keep track of what’s going on. Peace to all and keep fighting the good fight!

❤️ red (life) ❤️
a book with a spirited protagonist totally proud of who they are. someone who gives you LIFE!

🌈Gay; Bisexual; Polyamorous🌈
I know exactly the character that this prompt describes perfectly: Hypnos from the The Gilded Wolves trilogy by Roshani Chokshi! Hypnos is outgoing, flamboyant, and charming, and he’s not afraid to be himself because he’s proud of who he is.
🧡 orange (healing) 🧡
a book that made you, as the reader, find a deeper meaning or catharsis in your own life

🌈Bisexual; Lesbian; Gay🌈
For this prompt I’m choosing The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo because Evelyn Hugo’s character prompted me to really deconstruct a lot of internalized misogyny surrounding dating that I didn’t realize I’d been struggling with.
💛 yellow (sunshine) 💛
a book that fills you with so much joy it could brighten even your darkest day

🌈Gay; Bisexual; Pansexual; Transgender (Femme); Asexual🌈
How could I choose anything other than the Heartstopper webcomic/graphic novel series by Alice Oseman for this prompt?! After all, it’s such a sweet treat of a read!*
* Just as a warning, this series does contain some triggers (specifically: mental health disorders and eating disorders), but they’re handled very well, very gently, and very accessibly, imo.
💚 green (nature) 💚
a book that is set out of this world—a reality different to our own

🌈Asexual🌈
Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko is an outstanding West African inspired YA fantasy wherein one of the highlighted side characters is asexual. The main character and said character actually have a really beautiful conversation about this character’s sexuality, and it was really sweet and refreshing to read!
💙 blue (peace) 💙
a book where one of the characters finds peace with a difficult truth

🌈Bisexual🌈
This question reminded me of Nina Zenik during her arc in the King of Scars duology by Leigh Bardugo. At the end of the Six of Crows duology, a very traumatic event for Nina occurs, and she spends a large part of King of Scars carrying around that trauma in a very visceral way. Fortunately, by the end of the novel, she learns how to manage that trauma in a healthier way.
🖤 black/brown (inclusivity) 🤎
a book where one of the characters is a queer character of color / queer indigenous character

🌈Bi/Pansexual; Nonbinary/2Spirit🌈
The Between Earth and Sky trilogy by Rebecca Roanhorse features not one but TWO bi/pansexual main characters and also has a nonbinary/2spirit side character who plays a large role in the series! And!! It’s also an Indigenous American inspired fantasy written by an Afro Indigenous author!
spill the beans, friends!

This tag looks so fun!!
Also, your selections are amazing, I love Heartstopper + Seven Husbands.
It’s so amazing that you’re posting about Palestine as well, I’m so glad more awareness is being spread.
Loved this post!! <3
Thank you, Alia! You should definitely do the tag, I retroactively tag you lol! Heartstopper + Seven Husbands are two of my favorite books/series outside of fantasy, they’re both so amazing and moving! And, I’m always happy to spread awareness about Palestine, it’s always in my heart and on my mind! Thanks for dropping in <3
