announcing autumnathon! | a readathon to celebrate the season

Hello again, dear friends! I hope you are well, and if not then I hope brighter days head your way soon! Today I am soooooo excited because I’m announcing the start of an original readathon I’m running: Autumnathon!
Autumnathon will take place from September 1, 2024 through November 30, 2024 and is a readathon celebrating all things autumn. For this readathon each month has two book challenges and an activity challenge to complete. There are no teams or points, this is just a very laid back readathon to try and read some seasonally themed books. You can read physical books, audiobooks, and/or e-books—it doesn’t matter so long as you’re reading! The only “rule” is if you think it should count for this readathon, then it does! So let’s check out the challenge bingo board!

Let’s also take a deeper look at the challenges…
For the month of September the two reading challenges are to read a dark academia and to read a mystery novel. Since September is back-to-school season, I chose those two subgenres since they’re more “academic.” The activity challenge is to create a cozy “nook” for yourself to read in. This could be anything—it could be a chair next to your bookshelf with a fuzzy blanket and fairy lights surrounding you or it could be a blanket fort in your livingroom or (if you’re me, lol) it could just be a big ol’ pile of blankets on your bed to snuggle under and read late into the night. Your nook doesn’t have to be “aesthetic” or “picture-worthy,” it just has to be whatever you need it to be in order to get cozy with an autumnal book. That said, if you want to snap a pic and share it with your fellow bookworms on Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok be sure to tag it with #autumnathon2024, so we can find it!
On to October! For October, the reading challenges are to read a book featuring witches and to read a spooky or “spoopy” book. I really wanted to lean into the fun, spooky aspect of October, but I didn’t want to exclude people who (like me) are more averse to horror books. And for our activity challenge, it is to do an autumn-themed arts and crafts activity. As a crafty lady myself, I’m super excited for this activity challenge! You can carve pumpkins or knit an autumnal scarf or create an autumnal journal spread—whatever crafty thing you’re interested in, as long as you can put an autumn-themed spin on it then it counts! And, again, feel free to share your creations with us using the hashtag #autumnathon2024.
Finally, we have November! November is a darker and colder month wherein it’s really finally time to get extremely cozy. Given this, the reading challenges are to read a gothic novel and to read a cozy fantasy. The activity challenge is to bake a treat in order to beat the chills! The treat can be as simple as a chocolate microwave muffin in a mug or as elaborate as an autumnal pumkin pie. Of course, once again, you can share your treats using #autumnathon2024.
So, dear friends, that’s a quick rundown of the official 2024 Autumnathon! I hope you’ll join me in getting in the mood for the season and doing some autumnal reading and activities—I can’t wait to see/read about your TBRs and the results of the activity challenges!! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a big ol’ cup of chai and several chonky fantasy books calling my name. Until next time, dear friends…
