lately with lila october 2022 | scares and schoolwork

Hello again and a belated happy Halloween, friends! How have you been? I’ve had quite a busy month! Which is probably why in October I felt like the month stretched on and on and on, yet also felt like I had no time for anything, at all, whatsoever, period.

Unfortunately, because I was so busy during October, I didn’t have too much time for reading or blogging. *sobs* I did manage to watch a ton of movies, though, but only because my Film Appreciation I course requires it, so I guess that’s a benefit of the class, lol! So, let’s dive right in and check out how my month went down!

what i posted

what i’m currently reading

🗡️ These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong I read the first half of this book a while ago but temporarily set it down because I wasn’t in the right mood, but I decided to pick it up again and so far I’m loving it! I feel like the haunting atmosphere of this book/series is so perfect for autumn!

what i plan on reading

🌟 Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse Honestly, I’m in a super mood reader-y mood at the moment, but I’d love to read this book in celebration of Indigenous History Month. Seeing as the first book instantly became an all-time favorite of mine, I can’t wait to see where the story goes next!

what i watched

💖 10 Things I Hate About You This wasn’t the most memorable movie, but it was still really cute.

📝 The Half of It I loved this movie—it was so incredibly sweet and heartfelt and touching!

🗡️ Mr. & Mrs. Smith This film felt like an obnoxiously prolongued action sequence with barely any story behind it. Then again, my opinion should probably be taken with a grain of salt, since I’m not really a fan of action movies.

📱 Not Okay I enjoyed this movie in a technical sense, but I’ve also never had a movie make me cringe so hard the entire way through like this one did. Which…I mean, I guess kudos to the filmmakers for getting their point across and eliciting the desired reaction from me?

what i did in october 2022

Our choral performance of “If I Had A Hammer”

October was a really busy month for me! I went on a couple of dates, had my first Calculus II exam (plus two other Calculus II quizzes), had two papers due in my Film Appreciation I course, and performed in my first choral concert of the semester. The highlight of my month was definitely the choral concert. It’s been so incredibly nice to get back to singing and I had a really fun time performing in the concert!

what i plan on doing in november 2022

November’s gonna be another busy month, but also an exciting month! First and foremost, my birthday falls in November, so hopefully that will be fun. I also snagged tickets to see my favorite music artist, Jessie Reyez, in concert in November and I’m so hyped!! There’s also Thanksgiving, which guarantees great food for a while! So even though the days are getting colder and shorter (yuck!), November still looks like it’ll be a good month!

spill the beans, friends!

  • How was your October?
  • Did you read any memorable books?
  • What are you looking forward to in November?

  1. I hope you continue to enjoy These Violent Delights, it does have an amazing atmosphere 😍
Not Okay was an interesting movie, I feel like a few films/tv shows have attempted a satirical insight into influencers/tiktok, to comment on modern society. I did appreciate how different this felt compared to others, and it took more risks. I felt like it had a strong ending too. But it is quite uncomfortable to experience at the same time 😅
I hope you have an amazing November and enjoy your birthday celebrations. I bet Jessie is going to be stunning live 😍. I almost got tickets myself, maybe next time. Have fun ❤️

not okay was such an interesting movie to study, i feel like the filmmakers got it right in so many ways! i think it’s kind of a complement to them to say it was a really uncomfortable movie to watch because i think that was kinda the point, so the filmmakers did their job really well, haha!
