Hello again, friends! How’s everyone doing? I hope all is well and if not, I hope brighter days head your way soon.

What a month! It’s been a busy one for me, friends!! I barely got time to read, life was so packed, lol! I didn’t even get a chance to dip my toes into more than one show (which I adored anyway). Ah well, at least my Film Appreciation I class meant that I watched plenty of movies. But enough of my rambling, let’s dive into my monthly recap already!

what i’m reading

Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse I’m this close to finished with this one!! ANYHOO! I’ve seen a lot of reviewers say that they didn’t enjoy Fevered Star as much as Black Sun, as they found it slightly boring and to that I say…did we read the same book??? Cause I absolutely love this installment in the Between Earth and Sky series!! I will say that Fevered Star is significantly more political than Black Sun, so if that’s not your jam, then you might find this book less compelling thank the previous one. I, however, have found all the complicated scheming and intrigue to be just my speed!

what i watched

Wednesday (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐) I started watching Wednesday the day it was released in November and I absolutely love it!! I’ve always enjoyed The Addams Family and Wednesday and Morticia are favorites of mine, so its great to see Wednesday get her time in the spotlight. I also love that they made Wednesday and Gomez Latinx! I think Netflix has done a great job updating the series and I can’t wait to see where the show goes!

The School for Good and Evil (⭐⭐⭐⭐) I’ve never read the book series this film is adapted from (although it’s on my list!), but I thought this movie was really adorable! I think Middle Grade is a tough demographic for filmmakers to cater to because you don’t want to go too kiddish but you also can’t go completely teen either. That being said, I think the filmmakers of The School for Good and Evil got it right in this instance! I obviously can’t comment on how the movie adapted the source material, but as its own thing, I thought it was a great movie reminiscent of movies like Ella Enchanted.

Enola Holmes 2 (⭐⭐⭐) I loved Enola Holmes, so I was super excited for the sequel. Unfortunately, Enola Holmes 2 let me down a bit. It felt like the filmmakers were relying too much on making Enola a quirky “not like other girls” kinda girl, instead of giving her a really intriguing storyline. This meant that I found myself bored through most of the movie.

The Hate U Give (⭐⭐⭐) Again, I haven’t read the source material that this was adapted from, but as its own thing, I thought this movie was alright. Something about the movie felt a tad too polished and posed? It was weird…

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (⭐⭐⭐⭐) Seeing as I loved both Dr. Strange and WandVision, it’s probably not shocking that I really enjoyed this movie! Plus this film introduced America Chavez, who I know and love from Marvel comics, so that added a really fun element to the film!

Uncharted (⭐⭐⭐) Apparently this movie is adapted from a video game and, being the treasure hunt story fiend I am, I’m not super interested in trying the game out! But we’re here to talk about the movie, haha! I thought this movie was a fun, albeit slightly forgettable film.

what i did in november 2022

November was a whirlwind of a month! It started off with a bang with going to a Jessie Reyez concert. Jessie is my all-time favorite music artist and seeing her in concert was so incredible!! I had such a great time and so much fun!!! There was also Thanksgiving, which brought with it some delicious food! And immediately following the holiday was my 28th birthday. I had a big Calculus II exam the week of my birthday, so I actually ended up celebrating the following weekend, but it was very fun.

what i plan on doing in deceber 2022

Between finals and the holidays, December is another busy month for me! My finals are from December 7th through December 13th, so I’ll be studying/working on coursework like crazy until the end. But there are also some nice things to look forward to as well. My winter break begins December 14th, so I’m hoping to have some fun then. My friend invited me to go ice skating and I’m hoping to go down to the National Mall to see the National Christmas Tree and all the Christmas trees from around the country. I’m also hoping to maybe catch another Profs & Pints lecture on something fun and interesting, but we’ll see. Of course, there’s also Christmas and New Year’s Eve, both of which I expect to be quiet this year.

spill the beans, friends!

  1. I’ve been thinking of watching Wednesday on Netflix, and now that I know you enjoyed it, I’m going to try to watch it this week.

  2. I’m so glad you enjoyed Wednesday!! I’ve been thinking of watching it but also it looks scary and horror is not my favourite genre.

    1. i’m SUCH a scaredy cat (horror anything is a serious no go for me), so i was worried too, but it’s actually not scary at all. if you’ve seen chilling adventures of sabrina, it’s not even as creepy as that. it’s more campy and kooky lol! but definitely go at your own pace ❤️
